Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Or don’t I have something to say about it? It’s not that I don’t care To pull the strings in favour of me But I could never ask you to love me more Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl A girl like you is a diamond You’re like Lake Ontario whitecaps I know I’m never gonna see that Again I don’t tell the leaves to fall Don’t tell the sun to rise I leave it to the wind and skies To work it out Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl I can sit in solitude My head between my knees the rain it soaks my jeans but I'll be fine Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl away Am I just gonna stand here While you take my girl

Why So Cruel 03:03
I’m not your type It’s a crying shame It keeps me up at night All these impending mistakes I’m not your girl But I could swallow up your world I can see your point As you’re walking away But why so cruel Why so cruel Why so cruel When you walk away I play so nice When I break the rules But you’re as cold as ice Now I’m a shivering fool Did you punish me For coming by it honestly Oh, but honestly, I see Why you walk away But why so cruel Why so cruel Why so cruel When you walk away But why so cruel Why so cruel Why so cruel When you walk away Why so cruel Why so cruel Why so cruel When you walk away When you walk away When you walk away When you walk away

There’s a 21st century hole in the ground and it’s shaped like you and it’s bringing me down There’s a 22 caliber bullet in my head And it’s full of the dirt from the lies that you spread Fun with your money ‘till the market crashes Fix all the glitches with taxes Free is never free when you make the rent, boy 420 baby when the money's all been spent There’s a 21st century hole in the ground And it’s shaped like you and it’s bringing me down One for the honeys And 2 for the blow 3 you’re never ready for it 4 more miles to go… La la la la la la la la la la Oooh la la la la la la la la There’s a 21st century hole in the ground and it’s shaped like you and it’s bringing me down There’s a 22 caliber bullet in my head And it’s full of the dirt from the lies that you spread Another holiday that you call the weekend Burning through your paycheck again Taken to the cleaner’s sink another token 420 baby when your cold heart has been broken There’s a 21st century hole in the ground And it’s shaped like you and it’s bringing me down One for the honeys 2 for the blow 3 you’re never ready for it Four more miles to go Oooh la la la la la la la la la la la (four more miles to go) Oooh la la la la la la la la la la la (four more miles to go) Oooh la la la la la la la la la la la (four more miles to go)

A day at the revival I wear my Jimmy Choos High as Jesus H Hallucinating in the pews Falling down with fever Crawling through the dirt My heavenly father Gonna make it hurt Sugar on my lips Helps the medicine go down Seven deadly sins Gonna drink my medicine down Midnight redemption I wear my pleather skirt Daddy’s little demon Shaking bones up from the earth Come on, won’t you save me I suffer for your truth I’m a good missionary When I’m feasting on the fruit Sugar on my lips Helps the medicine go down Seven deadly sins Gonna drink my medicine down Midnight corruption Whispered in tongues Licking my lips The heaving of lungs Oh, heavenly vessel Exorcise my soul Find my inner demon Make me lose control Seven deadly sins Seven deadly sins Seven deadly sins Seven deadly Seven deadly sins Seven deadly sins Seven deadly sins Seven deadly sins Sugar on my lips Helps the medicine go down Seven deadly sins Gonna drink my medicine down

Play It Safe 03:13
Every little thing that I’m thinking of Every single lie that I trace Every conversation Defying every look on your face Something ‘bout the way That the pieces fall Something ‘bout the way that they break I could reconsider But baby I’m in love with the pain Oh, play it safe Oh, play it sane I’ll behave, if you do Tell me ‘bout the time of your broken heart Lay down on the floor like a dog Tell me all your secrets Baby I’ll keep playing along When I get to thinking I’ve a lot to lose Spilling it all over the floor Slipping on confessions Until the linoleum sparkles Oh, play it safe Oh, play it sane I’ll behave, if you do Oh, play it safe Oh, play it sane I’ll behave, if you do Oh, I get tired of making faces I’m on the brink of emotional suicide And I will take you down with me Oh, play it safe Oh, play it sane I’ll behave, if you do Oh, play it safe Oh, play it sane I’ll behave, if you do

Man of War 02:51
Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Preacher, preacher can’t you save my soul I send you money and I, I’ll send you more To keep my mind in a state of elation Hold for ransom, the heart of a nation Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Teacher, teacher I see Jesus and Mary What’s in your mind when your head is buried Pro position or the will of the lord Live and die by a double edged sword? Good lord Good lord Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Dear leader, oh your colours are showing Bloody orange when the sunset’s glowing True believers, yeah they got your back You hold your nose when the money’s all black Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War Sometimes the good lord Comes as a Man of War

I wanna hold the hand inside you I wanna take the breath that's true I look to you and I see nothing I look to you to see the truth You live your life you go in shadows You'll come apart and you'll go black Some kind of night into your darkness Colors your eyes with what's not there Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it's strange you never knew A stranger's light comes on slowly A stranger's heart without of home You put your hands into your head And then smiles cover your heart Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it's strange you never knew Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it's strange you never knew

I should be good I should move on I should be over it But you’re colder than the war Between the Soviets So I drink and I get sad and Try somebody new But you follow me around The way you used to do Oh my mind is haunted by you Please Maria, can’t I see ya One more time before You ghost this scene Now you’re gone But I’m still kicking Up the avenues Where we’d stop And get a drink And share the latest blues I’d get talking ‘bout the stuff That eats a brain like mine While your eyes they keep a rollin’ ‘Till the end of time Oh my mind is haunted by you Please Maria, can’t I see ya One more time before You ghost this scene I should be good I should move on I should be over it But you’re colder than the war Between the Soviets So I drink and I get sad and Try somebody new But you follow me around The way you used to do Oh my mind is haunted by you Please Maria, can’t I see ya One more time before You ghost this scene Please Maria, can’t I see ya One more time one more time one more time before You ghost this scene

Oooh Oooh Bite my tongue Play it straight We’re so young But we’re too pretty to wait The girls all think they’re something Playing by the rules But I’m your partner in crime I’m your suffering fool You got lucky, I got lost I’m the chattel, you’re the boss I’m just waiting for the lightning to strike me down You’ve been preaching to the choir There’s no burning without fire Strike me down Strike me down Oooh Oooh People talk Talk, talk, talk Words sound good As they bypass a thought The silence reigns The trial adjourned But the warmth of the fire Begets the sting of the burn You got lucky, I got lost I’m the chattel, you’re the boss I’m just waiting for the lightning to strike me down You’ve been preaching to the choir There’s no burning without fire Strike me down Strike me down Strike me down Strike me down Oooh Oooh Oooh

about

Since their debut, Whitehorse has traveled from magnetic folk duo to full-blown rock band and beyond. In truth Whitehorse is never fully either one or the other, but an ever-evolving creative partnership that challenges both artists, Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet, to explore new instrumental and lyrical terrain with each record. Steamy, swampy and squalling in equal measure, Whitehorse's signature sound is guitar-heavy, harmony-abundant and lyrically deft.

Now, the JUNO Award winners return with Strike Me Down, a collection of disco-twirling, hard riffing tales from the brink. Strike Me Down showcases Whitehorse's masterful, fantastical storytelling and melodic pop sensibilities, with plenty of space made for guitar shredding, epic basslines and spaced-out vocal layering. High-impact production and prismatic visuals contribute to Strike Me Down's high-stakes, epic vibe. Key single "Why So Cruel" synthesizes decades of dance-ready nightclub noir, from Blondie and ABBA to Kacey Musgraves' "High Horse."
